Alberta Collaborative Quality Improvement Strategies
1 Clinical Trial Across 12 Alberta NICUs
The Alberta Collaborative Quality Improvement (ABC-QI) Trial is a project focused on strategies to improve nutritional and respiratory outcomes of preterm infants (32–36 weeks’ gestation) across Alberta NICUs.
Funded by the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR), the ABC-QI Trial is a stepped-wedge cluster randomized trial that brings together site investigators and clinical teams across 12 Alberta NICUs to implement evidence-based nutrition and respiratory care bundles in phases. Currently, four NICUs have already implemented the nutrition bundle with strong engagement from physicians, nurse managers, dietitians, and educators with an additional four sites to begin implementation around June 2026. Development of the respiratory bundle is approaching finishing stages, supporting the trial’s goal of improving standardized, high-quality care for preterm infants across Alberta.
